Extreme NoSpend

Remember how I did NoSpend November last year? Well this year I decided to try it in December. There are a couple of reasons for this shift. First of all I had a vacation planned already for November so I didn't want to skimp on it since vacations for me are so rare. The other reason is that while last November was difficult (primarily because of football season) it wasn't as big a stretch to pull off. Christmas is a big spending time and I found that instead of really saving on holiday spending, it could have been differed. So is it really no spend? Tough call. So in that spirit I modified one rule from 09. No Christmas stockpiling.

No Change November sprung as a result of things being moved to December. I can now compare it to December as well as last November. I also get a chance to see if I am able to track spending when it is happening all the time. Lets see how it all goes! Also of note, I am changing how I list acquired and consumed. If I acquired a cookie and ate it all in the same day, it will only be listed in consumed. Acquired will only be present for things that make it to the end of the day. The exception to this is cashflow.

[If you want to see them you can display the complete rules here]

Day 14: Spending Woe

Yogurt, pizza (delivered to the office since it's too cold to go outside) made up my expenses at work. Aaron gave me a ride home and on the way I realized that I hadn't brought home the leftover pizza. Sarah came over to drop some things off and I gave her some bread to take with her. It was funny because William wouldn't stop running around the house and refused to put his jacket back on. I was very pleased that my trick of asking him to hold the bread stopped him from tickling his mom's face enough for her to get his coat on and back into the car. I headed to the grocery store for pie ingredients and picked up the leftover pizza from my office on the way. It was an interesting experience wandering around the store. There were so many things I wanted. Lucky Charms, juice, candy, extra pie pans. But every time I looked at something I thought about the $46.36 in my pocket. I had to make it last. This has been a huge mental fight for me. I refinanced my house and thus got to skip a payment, received a bonus from the state, got a promotion at work that will go into effect in two paychecks, and I can't spend any of it!!! December is a real challenge, but I know that after this month, I'm going to be proud that I pulled it off, and anything that I buy for myself will be much more rewarding. I just keep reminding myself that I am really lucky. I don't HAVE to do this. But there are plenty of people that do.

Ok.. back to pies. I am making two pies that Dacia is going to bring to her class on Wednesday. It took a good long time but they turned out well overall. Dinner was leftover pizza and a glass of lactaid eggnog. I miss the real stuff that I'd make from scratch but my stomach has decided that it's not for me. Here's a preview of the pies (and yes I am taking a few orders here and there if friends want some).
