    Everybody needs a little romance - 11/12,13/05

Well, this weekend I had high expectations for getting three projects done. Saturday morning I woke up slowly and thought... first I will powerwash the deck. Next, the tread for the bottom of the stair gets cut and stained with its first coat. After that, on with the pickets.

Go figure, it all worked out!

Powerwashing the deck was pretty painless. I am in no way skilled in the process however I am good at learning how to point super strong hoses at things and make stuff get cleaner. I did a little cleaning on the side of the house. I sure do like cleaning. Time to get the tread done.

Jeff gave me a piece of a stair tread. Nice to have since they are only sold in 12' or 14' lengths. Out came the old tread and after 4 cuts plus some serious sanding in went the new tread. The first coat of stain went on and I was off to work on the fence.

Jul came home right when I was finishing the staining. He helped me put up the pickets. It went quite smoothly, which seemed to be the norm for the weekend. Half done was good enough for Saturday.

Sunday brought more productivity. I put on a third coat of stain (second went on the previous night) and got right to staining the deck. Chris 'helped out' and it was done pretty quickly. I set up the web cam to do a time lapse but I did it wrong. A few people got to watch it all happen live. So at least that worked out.
Kos was over borrowing power tools and so he helped Jul and I fix up the rest of the fence. When it was done, it looked something like this. Actually it was lighter out when it was done. But it did look close to the same. Lots of people in the neighborhood walked by today and they were full of compliments. Oh forgot to mention that there are three little pieces left to go in. The should be fast though.
Last on the list was the tread. I am not sure if it needs another coat of stain so I didn't nail it in. I was urged not to take the stairs apart again. The last time I got all perfectionist on the stairs, they weren't finished for several weeks. All in all it was quite a productive weekend. The fence needs another coat of stain and the bench for the deck does as well. That will just have to be done another day though. For now, three seriously big projects are done.
