I am sure that you all have figured out by now that my gardening skills are somewhat lacking. I do a lot of tearing things out, and not so much putting things back in. It's not that I don't want to. It's more that I just don't get around to finishing it. This weekend I made an effort to keep that from happening.

The past few years when my parents have come into town we've done some shopping for plants and putting them into the garden. This year I wanted to get a new tree and also fill up some of the ground in the flowerbeds. The tree chosen was a weeping cherry. At the moment it sits out in the backyard waiting to be put into a hole. It is really nice and I hope to get it planted Tuesday when the rain lays off a little.
The next part was to cover the ground around the two trees beside the deck. There is a fringe tree and a peach tree. Both are pretty small right now. At the nursery there were some neat blue flowers (Lithodora) that should be good ground cover after they start growing. Mom also helped me pick out two kinds of flowers (orange Fides Kalanchoe and white Copia) to go into a window box that she bought me for my birthday. Finding a good spot to hang it is the next step.

Sunday after I had breakfast with Mom and Dad I went on a few errands and picked up two more kinds of flowers. Both annuals, one a small white flower (Verbena) similar in size to the blue ones. My thought was that the blue perenials would eventually grow enough to fill things in, but in the mean time I could put some annuals in to cover the dirt. I arranged them in sort of a triangle. In the back we put some yellow marigolds. I drew a little picture of it below a real picture and a real picture is to the right. I'll have to take more pictures when they grow up!
