I had a wireless keyboard and mouse for the computer but the range wasn't quite long enough to let me sit on the couch and use them. In my search for a remote trackball, I found a remote control that had an integrated trackball.
The EZ Commander remote isn't quite perfect out of the box but it does what I need, I can change the volume, play, pause, and use the trackball to move the mouse pointer. The top keys can be programmed to control any application as you wish and the bottom buttons can type words out similar to how a cell phone works.
